On April 23rd in a surprise announcement, the Japanese mobile game Dragon Egg (ドラゴンエッグ) announced a collaboration with the Shaman King franchise. The collaboration started at 18:00 on the 23rd within the mobile game and is scheduled continue until May 7th at 15:59. The game, first released in 2015 by developer Rudel has over 1 million installs on Android and is also available in the Apple App Store in Japan. The gameplay is a battle RPG where you can gain new monsters and other characters to fight against your enemies. Similar to other games in the Japanese mobile RPG game market, this features a guild system and is heavily invested in microtransactions and gacha-mechanics to purchase more monsters for your team.
The following is the tweet which announced the collaboration:
The Japanese website Gamer contained some images and information about the game. The Japanese website Game8 also has a wiki containing some more details about the game. Both of these sources were referenced for this article in English. The game is in Japanese-only and is not easily accessible to non-Japanese-speakers, so this information is provided as resource for fans who would not be able to play the game. The Gamer article also contains some additional images from within the game.
Gacha Rewards
For this collaboration there are two types of collectables via the standard gacha system; characters that you can use in-game and avatars to represent the player. The character gachas also have the ability to be evolved into stronger forms. You will either need to slowly collect the in-game currency to make pull with the gacha, or spend real money to more quickly acquire the in-game currency. The official Twitter account has also be showing off the base character (left) and their evolved form (right) over the last few days:
The five characters you can unlock via the gacha are:
- Yoh
- Ren
- Ryu
- Horohoro
- Anna
All of these characters have a rarity of 9, which are the hardest to pull. Only Anna has a single form, where the other characters will require 2 Dragon Eggs of the appropriate elements and 3 Star Haniwans to evolve them. All the other characters, outside of Anna, can also evolve a second time with the Evolutionary Dragon Stone. The Anna character is also unique in that she is the only one with Support skills while all of the other four shamans only have combat skills. In addition to these characters, there may be other minor characters that can be unlocked and the new additions may be made to the game.
There are also avatars in the collaboration gacha which you can use to represent yourself within the game. These avatars can be one of the following:
- Yoh
- Hao
- Ren
- Ryu
- Anna
- Horohoro
- Jeanne
These characters and avatars can not be unlocked within the game via other means. Additionally when doing the gacha pulls it is not a guarantee that the Shaman King-specific characters will be unlocked. Unlike other collaborations, no free characters are given to the players, however there is a free gacha pull.
Collaboration Story Mode
In addition to the normal story mode and guild battles in the game, there is a limited-time Shaman King story event where you can battle against Hao and collect “Patch Coins.” The name of the story mode is “Shaman Fight In Draegg”, as a pun on “Shaman Fight in Tokyo” and “Dragegg” being shorthand for “Dragon Egg.” The “Patch Coins” you earn in this story mode can be used for a special “Patch Coin Gacha” to unlock the character Hao. Hao can not be unlocked via other means. Along with Hao, this in-game gacha also has special equipment for your monsters and special stamps for the in-game chat.
The equipment that can be unlocked (which can power up your shamans):
- Hao’s gloves
- Ryu’s Wooden Sword
- Yoh’s Harasume and Futsunomitama Sword
- Ren’s Bâo-Lèi Sword
- Horohoro’s Ikupasuy
- Chō-Senjiryakketsu (for Anna)
When talking to your guild teammates in the in-game chat, you can use stamps to quickly communicate. The stamps feature a character and a portion of their famous quotes.
- Yoh
- Ryu
- Matamune
- Horohoro
- Anna
- Hao
In addition to all of these bonuses there is a log-in bonus campaign that will be in two parts. If you login to the game everyday for the first 7 days you will get extra prizes. This campaign will then repeat for the second set of 7 days in a row. Additionally there is a Twitter Retweet campaign where they will be giving out posters from the ongoing Shaman King anime. This Twitter retweet campaign is only available to residents in Japan.
