With the new Shaman King anime broadcasting in Japan this week on April 1st, a series of new promotional live action shows and specials have been airing to promote it’s release. TV Tokyo is one of the primary sponsors for the new anime so they are leveraging their TV channel to create some extra content for this new anime. Let’s dig into each of the special TV programs that will be covering Shaman King this week!

Sayuri Matsumura is studying Shaman King!

This 5 minute special ( 松村沙友理のSHAMAN KING勉強中!) had two episodes that air on Sunday nights (Monday morning) at 24:30. This is a special program hosted by Sayuri Matsumura as part of Nogizaka46 where she informs the viewers about various aspects from the Shaman King series. The first episode aired on March 21st, and the 2nd episode aired on March 28th. The official Twitter account for the Shaman King anime also included a promotional photo from these episodes:

Late-Night Cramming – Shaman King Episodes

Continuing with late-night TV specials, there will be two episodes of the show “Late-Night Cramming” (一夜づけ) featuring the upcoming Shaman King (2021) anime. The show touts itself as a series of “hot-blooded lecturers” who will give commendations on various entertainment pieces such as TV shows, movies, and DVDs. The first episode will air on March 29th at 26:40 and the second episode will air on March 30th at 26:35. Both episodes are only 5 minutes long. The first episode has the following description (roughly translated into English):

A completely new anime based on the legendary 1998 manga series! “Shaman King” is our topic. Tonight we’ll show you a short battle scene with the main character Yoh Asakura and his spirit ally Amidamaru!

The second episode has the following description (roughly translated into English):

As soon as it was announced, the anime became a trending topic on social media! “Shaman King” is our topic. Tonight we’ll show you a short scene where you can learn about the “gap” of our charming hero, Yoh Asakura!

Anireco TV – Shaman King Episode

Over the weekend as part of the AnimeJapan 2021 TV Tokyo Stage, a special 40 minute episode of Anireco TV aired featuring Shaman King. This Shaman King-themed episode will have its TV broadcast premiere on Monday March 29th at 27:25 on TV Tokyo. The episode features Yoh Askaura’s voice actress for the 2021 anime, Yōko Hikasa. They discuss her reactions to working on the show along with the other voice cast members. They also derail the conversation a bit into some other topics not about Shaman King.

No new footage from the anime was shown during the episode and only repeated the “2nd PV” trailer. However during the live stream in-between events a 15 second trailer for the Shaman King anime did play which contained one new scene from an upcoming episode. A screenshot from that new trailer is shown to the right.

Possession! Shaman King Academy

Airing on April 4th at 25:35, a brand new stand-alone Shaman King TV special is being produced. This show, literally called “Hyōi! Shaman King Gakuen” (憑依!SHAMAN KING学園) has the follow plot synopsis (roughly translated into English):

The “Shaman King” anime has finally started broadcasting! Prior to the second episode airing, we have a special 30 minute broadcast where you can learn about the charm of the series in a school class format!!

The show will have the following cast members as listed on the TV Tokyo broadcast listing:

  • Time Machine No. 3 (タイムマシーン3号)
  • Sakura Inoue (井上咲楽)
  • Ayane Kinoshita (木下彩音)

There is currently no promotional images for this TV special yet.


In addition to these scheduled TV programs, new 15 second trailers for the Shaman King anime have been broadcasting within the last week. TV Tokyo has been adding in these short ads in-between various show for their TV broadcast so it can be hard to tell when a new ad will appear. There are no official streams for viewing broadcast TV Tokyo shows on the internet outside of Japan.
