Announced today on the official Japanese Shaman King anime website and on their Twitter, a new Cardfight!! Vanguard promotional card featuring artwork from the Shaman King anime will be released.

Starting on March 17th, 2021 a promotional Shaman King card will be given out at select bookstore in Japan with the purchase of a book from the Shaman King franchise. Only 1 card will be given per person and the promotion ends when the supplies run out. There are about 2000 bookstores in Japan which are running the promotion. It is not clear if certain online retailers will also be running this promotion.

The card also features a QR code which directs players to the Shaman King anime website. The card number is D-PR/029 and features the standard Cardfight!! Vanguard cardback, making it a playable card within the game.

Cardfight!! Vanguard is a Japanese trading card game created by Bushiroad. In addition to having cards based within the Cardfight!! Vanguard franchise, they sometimes do collaborations with other anime properties. The game is also available in English.

Hiroyuki Takei has drawn card art for the Cardfight!! Vanguard card game in the past. He has drawn the cards in the line of “Tsukuyomi” as well as the card Yggdrasil Maiden, Elaine (which we reported on back in 2012 for the card’s English release). Last year, his art for the card game was planned to be shown at a special Bushiroad exhibit before it was cancelled due to coronavirus precautions.

There is no word on if a full set of Shaman King cards will be produced for the Cardfight!! Vanguard series, or if this is just a one-off promotion. The promotion started today with the release of the print volumes of Shaman King: Marcos volume 2 and the original Shaman King manga volumes 30, 31, & 32 in Japan. Shonen Magazine Edge also released today in Japan, featuring chapter 9 of Shaman King: Marcos and has that same title on the cover. Shaman King: The Super Star is on break this month in the magazine, and the magazine may not qualify for the promotion. Certain retailers in Japan may also have a promotional item when purchasing Shaman King: Marcos volume 2 as well.
