On October 20th, 2020, a new Japanese mobile game launched it’s beta (β) called “Tomodachi Quest” (トモダチクエスト). Featured prominently in the key art for the game, including the game’s icon, is a new drawing by Hiroyuki Takei made exclusively for the game.

Key Visual for “Tomodachi Quest”

While the main character (center image above) has many characteristics that are similar to Yoh from Shaman King, this Japanese mobile game is no way related to the Shaman King series.

Though the key art was used to promote the game, the actual gameplay uses a completely different art style. The RPG gameplay itself is very text menu-based along with it’s generic mobile game character designs.

The game is currently in beta and can be downloaded in Japan from the Google Play store. An iOS version of the game is listed as “Coming soon.” The Japanese website can be found here, along with their Twitter.

This is not the first time Hiroyuki Takei has provided character designs for Japanese mobile games. In 2017 he also provided the characters designs for the mobile game “Tokyo Dragon City”. This was an action-RPG by the same developers as “Tomodachi Quest” and used the same promotional marketing of Hiroyuki Takei’s art to launch the beta of their game. “Tokyo Dragon City” never made it out of the Beta version and the official website has since shut down.
