One year ago, in January 2018, just after the official launch of the “Shaman King 20th Anniversary”, the Japanese mobile game Pocolon Dungeon announced a new collaboration event which featured Shaman King characters. Due to the huge success of the event they held a special poll to find out if the event were to be run again, which character should be added. Iron Maiden Jeanne won that poll, so it was extremely likely that the event would be re-run in the future, but there was no word on when.

On January 10th, 2019, the official Pocolon Dungeon Twiitter (@poco_dandy) announced that Shaman King would return and that a special live stream will occur the next day with the details. You can view the entire stream here (in Japanese).

From the stream the following announcements were made:

  • Jeanne added as a 6 & 7 star gacha character
  • Ren gets a 7 star form
  • Marco added as a new boss character
  • New Ren-themed character armor
  • Princess Hao will also be added (not shown)
  • Event starts in late Jan 2019

Though not announced, the special event will most likely run for about a month once it launches. Characters that you have collected and armor pieces that you have collected can still be used outside of the event after it has ended. However, leveling up your characters is only possible within the event time-frame. Additionally there are some changes that occur within the game during the collaboration events, so there there may be some additional secrets that have not been announced. With previous collaboration events with anime titles often contained voice work for the characters. However, like the first event, this event does not plan to have voices as it’s based on the manga.

The game is free to play on the Apple App Store and Google App stores but in-app purchases are available. There are region restrictions which may prevent you from downloading and playing the game outside of Japan. The game is completely in Japanese with no English language available. Different versions of the game have been licensed and published in English (under different titles), but all of which have been permanently shut down. The game is not very story-driven, so it may be possible to play the game with limited knowledge of Japanese. Across all platforms, the game has been downloaded more than 12 million times.
