In the June issue of Shonen Magazine Edge, the official title of the Shaman King Side Story (or “Gaiden”) is called Shaman King: Red Crimson (レッドクリムゾン). The first chapter will be released in July issue Shonen Magazine Edge on June 16th, 2018. It will be featured on the cover and have a color page in the center of the issue. The story is planned by Hiroyuki Takei, but the artist is Jet Kusakura (ジェット草村). The art features Tao Jun and her kyonshi, Lee Pai Long. The ad was placed in-between the 2 chapters of Shaman King: The Super Star and within the next issue preview. Both previews are shown below. The black and white preview is visually similar to the preview for The Super Star used last month, which featured the character, Death Zero. Within the Shaman King Flowers storyline, this character is later revealed to be Sakurai. Jet Kusakura may be a pen-name but does not currently have a published manga series to his name and there is very limited information about this upcoming series. This is not the first time Hiroyuki Takei has worked with another creator on one of his series. In his Jumbor manga series that was previously published in Ultra Jump (now on hiatus), the story was written by Hiromasa Mikami and drawn by Hiroyuki Takei. Additionally in the later chapters of Shaman King Flowers, “Team Barrel Roll” was credited for assistance.

Within the June issue of Shonen Magazine Edge, it contained t he first 2 chapters of Shaman King: The Super Story. Instead of a typical 45 page single chapter, it was split into two chapters called the following as part of the “Itako No Anna 3rd Generation” arc:

Chapter 1: I came by the Side car! (側車で来た!)
Chapter 2: Itako Power (イタコパワー)

Both chapter titles reference Alumi Niumbirch from Shaman King Flowers, who is an Itako (like Anna Kyōyama is) and has a motorcycle with a sidecar like in Hiroyuki Takei’s original oneshot, Itako No Anna. The Shaman King: The Super Star manga will continue next issue in Shonen Magazine Edge.

Additionally, the issue displayed the new cover art for the Kodansha eBook releases for Shaman King volumes 11 through 15. These contain the updates from the Kang Zeng Bang (Perfect Edition), in a new eBook format for 35 volumes. 5 new volumes will be released every month and are currently only available online.  To compare the different versions of the manga, you can check out our guide to see which chapters and extras are included in each edition.

With the release of this new issue on the same day as the volume release of Nekogahara volumes 4 & 5 in Japan, the Japanese retailer Animate was giving out a special gift. If you bought 2 of the following, they would give you a special gift, which is valid at any of their Animate in-store locations.
