As announced recently from within the app itself, the official Japanese “Shaman King App” (シャーマンキング App) will discontinue it’s service on June 30th, 2017. This app provided fans a way to purchase the following manga series digitally (via in-app purchases):
- Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang
- Shaman King Zero
- Shaman King Flowers
In addition to being able to purchase volumes of manga, it also contained some extra wallpapers and other special images from the Shaman King series. All of the images on the app were used elsewhere in promotions for Shaman King, so nothing exclusive for the app. It’s worth noting that currently this app was the only way to purchase the Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang volumes digitally.
The app is recommending users to download the “Jump BOOK Store” app (ジャンプBOOKストア！), which their purchases will be transferred to (with the extras). This is part of an effort to centralize the several individual Shueisha apps into a single marketplace. It is worth noting that the Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang volumes have not been added to the Jump BOOK Store yet. Starting in July there is no way to legally purchase the Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang volumes anywhere in the world unless they are added to the new app store. Previously, the Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang volumes were sold exclusively through Yahoo!, before the “Shaman King App” was available.
Since it’s launch the Android version of the Shaman King app has had over 10,000 downloads. Both the App Store and Google Play Store versions of the app have only been updated to support the newer OS and content has not been added since the conclusion of Shaman King Flowers.
