Main Story Mode
The details about the plotline for the Main Story Mode have not been announced yet. These details are expected to be announced sometime in November 2021. A single screenshot from the main story cut scene that is beyond the story told in the anime has been shown.
The main story mode progresses in a linear story where they are broken up into “Stories” and within each “Story” there is about 20 stages called “chapters.” For each of the stages there are several “challenges” that you need to complete to beat each stage. There is about 3 normal challenges per stage in order to get the maximum completion. Additionally there can be several hard missions within the episode as well. A completion of a challenge will reward you with a gold totem on the chapter and can provide additional items as bonuses.
An English translation for the text has been added to chapter selection screen for this article. This English text is not present in the game.
If the chapter contains clips from the anime as part of the story a film icon is displayed on the selected chapter.
Each chapter has a title and provides recommended types and Furyoku for completing. A list of rewards will be given once cleared. Not all challenges need to be completed in order to progress through the story. Each chapter can be replayed multiple times to complete all the challenges.
If a chapter is too difficult there is an in-game item you can use to skip the mission. This icon is the “Patch Jumbo Jet Ticket”, which can be won through various in-game missions or purchased from the in-game store. Additionally, up to 3 times a day you can request help from other players online to help complete your chapters by borrowing their teams.
To start a chapter, you will need to have enough Stamina to play it. In the example, Story 3: Chapter 13 requires 10 Stamina to play. You have a maximum stamina and can purchase additional when you run out. Typically Stamina will slowly recharge over time and there can be items to recharge it more quickly.
Additionally each chapter has a recommended Shaman Type that should be used as well as the Furyoku level in order to complete it. If you do not have a high enough Furyoku level you may have difficulties betting the level and may need to replay previous chapters to increase your shaman’s level.
The current Main Stories are:
Story # | Story Name | Featured Character | Number of Chapters* | # of Normal Challenges | # of Hard Challenges |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | The Boy Who Dances With Ghosts | Yoh | 20 | 60 | 9 |
2 | Another Shaman | Ren | 20 | 60 | 9 |
3 | Kung-Fu Master | Jun | 20 | 60 | 9 |
4 | 20 | 60 | 9 |
Characters and Teams
The game is played by forming a team of Shamans, with 3 Shamans in the “Main Team” and then an additional 2 Shamans in the “Sub Team”. With each Shaman you can also attach up to 3 “Vision Cards” to further power them up. Depending on the Shaman selected they have their own rarity (marked with stars), level, type and other stats that would be typical of a RPG.
Just as with traditional Japanese RPG games, there are 5 types that Shamans can be. Each of these types have strengths and weaknesses.

Manta has also been confirmed to not be a playable character on your Shaman team. In addition to the characters listed above, more characters may be available within the base game that have not been announced yet. The developers are also planning on adding in more characters after the game launches.
After starting the game for the first time and completing the tutorial, you will receive 10 free “gacha pulls” to summon up to 10 Shamans to form your base team. When doing the gacha pull you have the potential to pull duplicates of Shamans you already have. The duplicates could be a shaman with a higher star rarity, where you can merge your duplicates together.
Enemies
Within the chapters of the game your team of Shamans will fight a variety of different enemies in waves. These enemies can be other shamans or new enemies created for the game. From the pre-release screenshots the following are all of the enemies shown within the game so far. No names have been given to these enemies yet.
Online Battle Mode: Shaman Fight
The “Shaman Fight” is an online battle mode where you complete against other teams of Shamans with a 10 turn limited fight. Based on how well you do in the fight you will get a score and ranking in points. There is also a cumulative score to get additional rewards. The round will reset every couple of days and you have a limit on how many times you can play. Playing this mode does not reduce your stamina which is used for playing the main story missions. The ranking goes from the lowest at “F” to at least “S” ranks. From playing this mode you can also earn in-game money (SP).
The Shaman Fight mode can be restricted based on your level and how far you’ve progressed in the Main Story.
An English translation for the text has been added to Shaman Fight Online Battle screen for this article. This English text is not present in the game. A portion of the screen on the right was obscured in this pre-release image.
Exchange & Enhancing Shamans
Within the Exchange feature you will be able to do level enhancements on your Shamans. This can increase the level for the Shaman to make them more powerful. You can also combine multiple Shamans of the same name that were pulled from the Gacha to increase the overall rarity of the Shaman. The higher rarity will allow for stronger stats. There is also Awoken levels and additional benefits you can do once you start to reach the maximum level.
There are also in-game items that you can use to upgrade your Shamans too. These special orbs can either be character specific or be applied to any Shaman. These orbs can be acquired by completing more difficult stages such as the EX Missions or as rewards from other in-game events.
Guest House “En”
The Guest House “En” (or “Flame”), is a location where you can send your shamans to rest in-between battles. While they are at the Guest House the Shamans can earn you in-game money (SP) as well as Patch Jumbo Jet Tickets and other in-game items. While your shamans are in the Guest House other Shamans may come to visit which can assist in gaining bonuses. The Friendship level for each Shaman also increases while in the Guest House which can help unlock Shaman-specific story missions.
EX Missions
The EX Missions are additional missions that you can play to gain additional rewards. These are more challenging than the story mode and each are based around a single character. As you beat the EX Missions you get Totems to mark your progress, just like in the Main Story. The major rewards for completing are shown at the bottom which can be used to increase the rarity and strength of your Shamans.
A portion of this in-game screenshot has been obscured in the promotional materials.
Other Events
In addition to the modes listed above there are other modes within the game where you can gain bonuses. Details on these modes are not available yet, and some of them may be available after the game launches.
The developers are also planning on adding in more “mini-game” style modes to the game. Over the last year they have been coming up with ideas, but may not be able to add them in until after the game launches. The previous Japanese console games for Shaman King had several mini-game modes that took a more humorous view of the series.
Portions of these in-game screenshots has been obscured in the promotional materials.
From the Home Screen images there is also a “I Will Not Waiver” event based around Ren and En. There is also a possible Jun-based mission as well. A “Funbari Dash Mission” also has an icon as well.
