The Japanese mobile game “White Cat Project” is currently running a collaboration with the Shaman King franchise in their game. The game is an action RPG that is available on iOS, Android, and the Amazon appstore. An English language version of the main game was made in 2015 under the title of “Colopl Rune Story” but was discontinued in 2016. The “White Cat Project” has expanded outside of just a videogame and also had a manga and an anime series. The Android version of the Japanese game has over 5 million downloads from the Play Store.
The Shaman King collaboration started on July 30th and will end on August 31st at 15:59. The collaboration has 5 characters from the ongoing Shaman King (2021) anime who provide voices to the characters. The playable characters are:
- Yoh
- Anna
- Ren
- Horohoro
- Hao
To unlock the characters you will need to get them from a random gatcha pull within the game. Within the game, these characters also have their own 3D models during gameplay. Additionally each of the characters also have their own equipment that can be unlocked to increase their strength. In-game chat stickers featuring the Shaman King characters can also be unlocked. You can use the in-game currency of jewels to complete the gatcha pulls. Additional jewels can be purchased with real-world money, however the game is quite generous with jewels that can be unlocked by completing story missions for new players.
With the new characters, there is also a story mode that you can play featuring the Shaman King characters. This mode includes the main Shaman King characters having voice acting and also includes additional 2D character art. A special recording session was made specifically for recording the voiced character lines for this game and are not reused lines from the anime. The character designs for the characters more closely relate to story elements that occur later in the manga series and have not been shown in the 2021 anime yet.
The official website for the collaboration features an art gallery for the characters, promotional trailers and a special Ryu-themed mini-game. In the game, “Ryu-san Regent Slashing Challenge,” you need to cut Ryu’s pompadour hair as close to his face as possible. How long his hair is changes each time so you need to fast with your reaction time. With this mini game you can share your results on Twitter and enter to win prizes. Entries need to be made by August 6th at 15:59 on Twitter and you also need to be following the White Cat Project (@wcat_project) as well as living in Japan. Additional rules are listed on the website.
In addition to mini-game Twitter campaign, there is also a contest to will the autographs from the voice actors in this game collaboration. The contest also ends on August 6th and requires a special retweet. Additional rules are also listed on the website, including that it is limited to fans in Japan only.
